Life
couldn't be better for Trenton Dane. Young, sexy, and hotter than a pot
of grits, Hollywood's newest A-lister has just landed the big-screen
role of a lifetime, and his rendezvous with superstardom is set. Better
yet, his unlimited potential has turned his name into sugar in the
mouths of many a lady-in-waiting...
On the other hand, life
for Glory Windsor couldn't be worse. Recently divorced from her
philandering, gadabout husband, she's been forced into the lonely world
of single motherhood & low-wage employment, wondering daily what,
if anything, she could have done differently to have directed her life
down a better path. Worse yet, she remains haunted by the repressed
pain of a lifelong secret she's been forced to keep…
Traveling
down these diametrically opposed paths, a chance encounter - and
accidental collision - between Trenton and Glory one day jars the very
foundation of their lives and forever alters both their realities.
Suddenly, Trenton becomes unwittingly aware of Glory's lifelong secret,
and his newfound knowledge begins to affect his life in ways he can't
explain. Eventually, the only thing he knows for sure is that their
individual pasts will unite to play a critical role in a future of
their mutual creation...
In Visions, Lisa Logan has created an
engaging tale of star-crossed strangers unsure of the reason for their
mysterious connection - yet compelled by it nonetheless. Trenton and
Glory couldn't be any more different from one another: he, a magnetic
charmer with the Midas touch; she, a small town loner with modest
aspirations. Yet, when they find themselves suddenly linked together by
the common thread of visions and other unexplained phenomena, you can't
help rooting for them throughout all the ever-emerging obstacles
threatening to drive them, and their love, apart. At the peak of its
fateful climax, this fast-paced story so engrosses you that you find
yourself transformed into the characters themselves, believing - as
they do - that you have just as much control over the final dramatic
outcome...
Visions is a slick, entertaining read sure to make
you think twice about whether or not your free will is really "free"
after all...
Official Apex Reviews Interview: Lisa Logan (Visions)
AR:
Lisa, thanks for joining us for this interview. We enjoyed reading
Visions, and we're looking forward to hearing more about it.
Where did you get the idea to craft a novel centered on such supernatural phenomena as spiritual visions?
LL:
I actually hit on the idea one night, when a brief dream sequence
depicted someone bumping into a psychic and "catching" some of their
powers. The idea intrigued me, and that seed grew into the premise of
my book.
AR: Have you ever been subject to anything similar to Glory or Trenton's experiences in the book?
LL:
Not even remotely! Unless you count going to court, that is. I have
visited some of the locations where the book's adventures are set. As
for psychic abilities, many ask whether I wrote the book from personal
experience. I have had some interesting forays into what some call the
mystical realm, but nothing like the flash-premonitions my characters
experience.
AR: After their
collision, Glory awakens telepathic abilities in Trenton, and he
subsequently is able to influence her thoughts and actions; however,
she can't do the same to him. Given their connection, why the
discrepancy in their individual abilities?
LL: Trenton
embraces his destiny readily, whereas Glory has reasons for pushing her
gift away. Thus, the fact that he is able to establish uses for his
ability more readily isn't that surprising. Not that this was easy for
him, as evidenced by the hit and miss attempts to reach out to her. The
psychic cat and mouse rather closely mirrors their real-life encounters.
AR:
Trenton seems like an awfully nice, humble guy for a big-time movie
star. Why was it important for you to portray him in this way?
LL:
Celebrity magazines, TV shows, and novels often show stars as eccentric
and self-important. I grew up around the "biz" and have been privvy to
a much larger cross-section than the stereotypes afford. I wanted my
character to embody the fact that a more down to Earth side of
Hollywood exists.
AR: Before
they finally end up together, Glory flees from Trenton a number of
times, so much so that one of his friends resorts to calling her
"Cinderella." Yet, after their furst encounter, she tracked him downin
the hopes of reuniting with him. What explains her indecisiveness
toward him?
LL: Ah yes...attraction is a many
splendored--and much confusing--thing, isn't it? Sometimes we want what
we know isn't good for us, drawn by "chemistry" against (what we
believe is) our better judgment. Glory finds herself so curious
about--and attracted to--Trenton that her heart pulls her back into his
life, though what she finds there frightens her. Are her subconscious
paranormal powers and fate also at work, ensuring the pair meet their
destiny? Hmmm.
AR: What prompted the betrayal of Glory's ex-husband, Doug, by his girlfriend?
LL:
Ever been with someone with so much baggage from a previous
relationship that you fear you'll never get out of the airport? Jenna
is, and even worse, SHE is part of that baggage. She is resentful and
jealous of the attention Doug pays to Glory, negative though it may be.
Doug manages to trounce on this resentment, apparently, once too often.
AR: Towards the end, you hint at a significant event in the future for Trenton and Glory - do I smell the makings of a series?
LL:
There are plans for a sequel, if not more. DOUBLE VISIONS will explore
Glory and Trenton's growing powers and how they put them to greater
use, and whether they can save their family--and love--from terrible
danger and the constant scrutiny of an unbelieving media.
AR: hat lies next on the horizon for you?
LL:
I've got two books under consideration: a murder mystery titled TWELVE
STEPS TO MURDER, and the first in a series of red hot novellas called
SUITE SEDUCTION. I've also just signed a contract for the lead story in
a Twisted Fayry Tales anthology.
AR: Any final thoughts you'd like to share with our readers?
LL: I hope you'll stop by my website at lisalogan.net, or come add me as a friend on MySpace: myspace.com/authorlisalogan. Keep reading--and dreaming!
AR: Thanks again, Lisa, and best of continued success to you in all your endeavors.
LL: Thank you!
